Remakes, Reboots, and Re-hashing tired stories
The next decade of entertainment and art will have no cultural identity and there will be nothing that sets the 2020's apart from the late 2010's in terms of art, music, or anything creative and we will achieve a level of mundane and dull in our art that the world has never seen before.
"Damn, sis this is bleak as hell is everything all right at home? Are they abusing you at your job like what's good sis what's tea?"
And to that I say, I'm not being abused at work, everything is more or less the same with me, but thanks for the concern!
"Oh well... that's cool, glad you're doing okay... that was still dark as hell please explain I'm about to unstan you I'm scared.."
While I think it's pretty self- explanatory, I'll tell you what I mean, since I'm a caring and thoughtful blogger.

Essentially, the biggest and most successful movies and TV shows made in the last couple of years are either remakes, reboots, or cash-grabs, with the rest being adaptations of old sleepy books.
"Okay and... what's the problem??"
The problem is that every decade prior to this, especially in cinematic history had a tone, specific stories to tell, and reflected back to us how the largest events of the time impacted the people that lived in that time. It meant that the people making movies at least cared about what was happening around them and could predict, to an extent, what was going to happen next. If we have no understanding of our time and no art, movies, or TV that reflects our time, it means that we don't care AND that we have no idea where our society is heading.
"Honestly.... you're being really aggy. I love these movies and of course a HATER like you wouldn't. I bet you can't even name one that's honestly that bad. Actually, since you have sooo much to say and you think you're the smartest movie bitch on the planet, I wanna see you try it. Go ahead. Name just ONE."
Beauty and the beast (2017)
"Now I know you've lost it. That movie was so cute! What's you're explanation, sis?"
It was a shameless movie with an under-utilized, over-promoted cast that effectively only retconed parts of the original plot and acted a tool to explain away the obvious yet endearing character flaws and continuity issues in the animated original. It was also a poorly concealed attempt by Disney to test whether or not they could bring back the era of big budget live musicals, that way they will spend less on animation in the future and the actors involved will be easier to promote.
"I- damn... can't argue with that... well what about the Jungle Book (2016)?! HMM?!"
An ineffective, boring retelling of an already overly told story. Also, when a movie has animals who are charming and funny and make up most of the characters, animating them in a hyper-realistic way removes their charm and ability to emote and just feels like a very strange version of a NatGeo documentary and yes, I'm looking at you too Lion King.
"Wh- now I'm really about to unstan. Are there any remakes you do like??"
Honestly, no. At least none that I can think of at the moment.
"But why??"
When a great movie or a show is made, it's isn't just the characters or music or setting or even the writing that make it good. It's also the time in which the story is being told. There's a reason that Breaking Bad (2008) was such a huge hit when it first came out. In addition to being exciting and well acted, it was also a show that reflected a lot of concerns of the time. Walt initially started cooking to make money and in 2008, during the recession, finding ways to make money and struggling financially is something most people could relate to at the time. A lot of people were also fed up with our financial system and government and watching someone continuously get over on the system while making money was really cathartic for viewers. Viewers who, were likely broke as hell, still following all of the laws, and mad about it. Now, do you think a show like breaking bad would have been such a massive hit during the boom? Like 2004 or 2005 when people were living life like they used bags of money for pillows? NO, and I stand by that. Timing matters and it's why there are so many good shows that were initially ignored when they came out. They had bad timing. All these remakes and reboots do is take a piece of work that had creativity, talent, and timing on their side and try and stick it in another time and it DOESN'T WORK!! It's also lazy and just lets me know that these writers rooms and "creative teams" are probably filled with some rich exec sons or at least with someone that has no talent or passion for writing but that's tea for another day.
"You went in. Honestly you're right... but I just wanna watch movies and not have to read 1000 hot takes about why it's bad. I just wanna enjoy stuff."
And you can do that, but just realize that you're feeding the lazy and uninspired entertainment industry we have to today and you better not come back and complain about it when we have a remake of Harry Potter in 10 years, A Game of Thrones: Brotherhood, and the 9th version of a star is boring starring someone's famous' daughter and Noah Centineo.
