Bitter dudes who shame women for liking anime
Nothing is quite as annoying as finding an anime,
watching it all the way through, falling absolutely in love with,
then going on twitter to see someone you like or respect absolutely ripping it to shreds.
Absolutely going in on the story-telling, the dialogue, the characters and of course,
the stupid droolery, sheep who enjoy it.
The fake anime posers who dared to like something that isn’t the niche,
high art that only the most intelligent anime fans consume.
An example of this would be the not so subtle backlash that has followed around specific
(read: women) fans of Boku no Hero Academia for almost 2 years.
More often than I’d like to see or actually bothered to write down,
the response to women who like BNHA is usually this:

More often than I’d like to see or actually bothered to write down,
the response to women who like BNHA is usually this:
“You only like it because the guys are cute!”
“If the fanart wasn’t so sexualized you wouldn’t watch it!”
“Stop trying to impress guys by lying and saying you watch it. Girls don’t like shonen!”
“It’s not even a real anime!”
There are some things to know about seeing and responding to the men who write these things.
The first is that, they’re jealous. Jealous that women can find so much excitement in things they only marginally like.
Our society sets men up to never fully express or find enjoyment in the hobbies they have,
less they look lame,
and that sucks but you shouldn’t be held responsible for that. It isn’t your fault.
The second, is that we haven’t come as far as we think we have.
I have always been of the camp that believes that we are only progressive online and that “progress”
moves about as slowly as ever.
This is partially why women are still being subjected to just boring,
basic misogynistic backlash about liking things that men do.
Many still believe that women only do things for the approval of men and that typically,
male coded activities such as watching anime,
reading manga, cosplaying, etc. essentially belong to men.
While we know this isn’t true, it doesn’t mean everyone will act accordingly.
Look at how the crusties came at Megan thee Stallion for liking anime.
It’s vicious out here. So you have the right to be vicious back.
Or to ignore it and go on about your life with your Yuri body pillow. It’s up to you.
But if you choose to clap back, here’s some helpful responses to the previous statements:

Response:
“And I only dislike you because you’re ugly go and moisturize.”
Statement 2:

Response:
“It’s not beefy shirtless fanart in the anime or the manga why don’t you let people live?”
Statement 3:
“Stop trying to impress guys by lying and saying you watch it. Girls don’t like shonen!”
Response:
“I would never spend chunks of my life watching anime to impress men I never have the intention of meeting. Try again.”
Statement 4:
“It’s not even a real anime!”
Response:
It’s on my screen, I’m watching it, and it’s doing numbers so…”
The TOXICITYYYYY!!! The hypocrisy of gatekeeping a medium you've been bullied for liking is just overwhelming. You should be honored by the femme presence and do whatever it takes to keep it around. Thankful, y'all wil continue to thrive no matter what, but UGH.
