A better ending of Game Of Thrones

I am an over-critical fan. I tend to nitpick and deeply critique the shows and movies I love instead of just sitting and enjoying them for what they are. No, I'm not out here doxxing people who disagree with me on some dusty fan twitter but I will still go in about my shows. And it's that passion for a show or artist or fine ass anime boi that makes content worth taking in. Getting involved and attached to your favorite media enhances the experience. The more you care about it, the more immersed you are in the world. You're more likely to support other projects the creators and actors undertake and that's nice, we like that. You're more likely to read fan theories and lore and hey, that's a good use of time. That fills the void, yes?? For a long time, it seemed to me that unless you were trolling the shows and it's fans or engaging in targeted harassment of female participants in your lame ass fanboy boys club, that there was no true downside to stanning a show.... that is.... until I saw the last season of Game of Thrones and that entire idea was cast aside like all of Jamie Lannister's character building from seasons 1 - 4.

To put it simply, the show broke my heart. The last season of the show literally picked me up for prom and dumped me for another girl right before the prom court announcement. This last season shared my nudes in a groupchat. It was brutal to watch and it was all because of the writing. Everything else from the cinematography to the acting to the insanely underappreciated costuming was phenomenal. The team that worked on Game of Thrones is spectacular and for years now they have consistently put out some of the best work I've ever seen. The actors, who were always amazing, fought so hard to bring this seasons' tired ass plot to life and that should be commended. But bitch.... that writing was HORRENDOUS. Those hack frauds essentially rewrote every single character to fit what was honestly a shit ending and no, I don't give a single solitary shit that that's the ending GRRM wanted. It isn't that good and I hope he changes it and embarrasses the hell out of the HBO show. Truly I could go tf in about just what happened with this season and by extension the show but I feel like one of my favorite YouTubers, Lindsay Ellis does the best job with this mess. In no less than 2, hour + videos no less. All you need to know if that the D&D saw a better, bigger bag and completely abandoned the show that made them to chase that bag. While I understand chasing the bag (we do live in a capitalist hellscape why not participate), Game of Thrones could have really benefited from more seasons, period. More time to expand the characters and maybe even flesh out this bullshit story they were so committed to. Literally anything. Honestly, I would've settled for the Fullmetal Alchemist treatment where the show ends as a convoluted mess but we get a 105 minute movie that sort of sets everything write.... eh.... ok maybe not THAT but at least 10 seasons were needed for this show. To cut down what once was the greatest show of all time to 4 phenomenal seasons, 2 lukewarm tease seasons, 1 big yikes season, and 1 actual monstrous mess is just shocking to me and I haven't been able to let it go. I'm bitter about it and I will remain bitter until Game of Thrones: Brotherhood.

For context it took me a long time to get into the show. My life had been almost entirely consumed by anime in college and before then I was too young and busy overachieving to really get into anything. I began watching in 2015 and by 2017 while I had caught up, it wasn't a huge thing in my life, until that summer of course. Over that summer I fell headfirst into the lore and history of the game of thrones universe. I listened to every lore video I could find on YouTube, memorized the map of Westeros and the free cities, re-watched the previous seasons, and even found a pretty good audiobook of the Dance of Dragons. I'm a lore stan and this world was so rich and fun I got very attached very quickly and I was excited to see how the current story ended. Unfortunately for me, the story went downhill from there and even though I lied to myself and tried to explain away all of the glaring issues, it stung watching what the show had become. I'm basically crying while writing this.

Therefore I am writing my own ending to Game of Thrones. The show deserves one that'll that at least tries to fit the tone of the show. An ending that likes the show at least... so here it is. Please keep in mind that I'm a lazy hag so I won't be writing this out just giving a few bullet points. Also, I am NOT a writer (HAR HAR) so I know I will be missing some elements here I would ask not to drag me but as I am due for a good drag, I urge you to. Please enjoy this ending and try to look fondly upon the show, like you would look fondly upon the good times with a crazy ex that tried to hit up your friends after you were done.

How Game of Thrones SHOULD have ended:
  • Beginning in season 7
  • Starks now have control of winterfell and the vale so they decide to have final battle with whitewalkers at the vale
  • abandon winterfell and it's like super sad and we can get into the emotional drama of winning the ancestral home from the Boltons just to abandon it
  • Daenerys arrives at dragonstone and is almost not so soon after, attacked by cersei's forces, giving her a reason to hate cersei personally and not just because she's on the throne
  • Needing dragonglass and reinforcements Jon goes to Dragonstone to see Daenerys (this stuff wasn't too bad from the show but sis where was the chemistry)
  • Back at the vale, little finger is trying to establish control of the north and the vale and there's a lot of mental back and forth with that; ends with littlefinger defeated and imprisoned
  • Dany and Jon return to the vale with reinforcements and lovveeeee and the stark family is ultimately indifferent to her but not hateful of her
  • concurrently, things are not going well for cersei in kings landing, she wasn't able to defeat Dani and she lost troops, the people of kings landing are protesting outside of the red keep, and the lords are ladies of the kingsland are planning a coup
  • Cersei is starting to go mad like reallllyyy mad and she orders her troops to kill all of the protestors; they do and a full blown movement for democracy starts - backed by the lords and ladies secretly
  • Maybe introduce a leader like a Robespierre figure and also NO EURON GREYJOY PLSSS HE DOESN'T FIT IN THE SHOW JUST THE BOOKS
  • Get some of that sweet, sweet political intrigue in there with the conclusion being Cersei getting golden company troops, leaving with her troops to go and capture winterfell, having forsaken dragonstone without knowing that a) the starks aren't at winterfell b) kings landing is lost to robespierre
  • By this time (Maybe this is season 8) the vale is crowded, dissension among the people in the vale and the people form the north; we get to see jon and Dani try and lead together and the tension that brings
  • JON'S PARENTAGE IS NEVER REVEALED (yes it's controversial but damn, chill. It no longer fits this story)
  • Cersei and her troops reach winterfell (IT TAKES A WHILE BECAUSE LAND) and find nothing but an overrun winterfell and the night king
  • They fight the night king and are wiped out and now part of the army of the dead; including cersei and yeah we'll make that sad for all of the cersei stans or whatever
  • Rest of season 8 shows the army of the dead ravaging the north and the neck; with the reed family making a last stand against the night king and we learn about how he was created to hate and destroy the realm of man so that's what he's gonna do ON PERIOD
  • Avoiding the impenetrable vale (and also saving the starks for last like the petty queen he is), the army of the dead approach kings landing and Robespierre refuses to reach out to Dany and Jon for help or aid and they are unaware of the depth of the situation (things in the vale are dicey and take a lot of attention)
  • Robespierre tries and fails to defend the city (end of the world kings landing is destroyed catastrophe since they liked that shit so much) and the season ends
  • Season 9: the vale has received no word from the outside as communication has broken down
  • Bran has had trouble using his abilities (something about the tree of his ancestral home being destroyed or whatever) so they really don't know and the dragons don't wanna fly over there (sis Idk I'm trying)
  • Finally, they send out a search party who over the course of most of the season find lands ravaged and battle the night king's generals and then return in a call back scene to the first episode
  • Season 10: The army of the dead has been growing and growing, until they finally the night king feels ready to take on the vale
  • There is terror in the ensuing struggle but ultimately they are able to hold the gate until littlefinger, who has grown mad and bitter from his defeat and believing that in the chaos he will be able to make a deal with the night king, somehow let's them in
  • Complete terror; vale overrun; long ass battle that they wanted; littlefinger killed by the night king because duh
  • night king using their "connection" reveals to bran that he is their ancestor. He was personally wronged by the starks and he recognizes that the realm of men will always exist while bran and his abilities live on
  • Bran communicates this with his siblings and they vow to keep him alive at the cost of their lives
  • They escape to the coasts of the vale but the night king catches up and all the starks except for Bran and Arya die in the struggle; them, dany, and a few people are able to escape on the backs of Dany's dragons in a callback to her coming across the sea, now she's fleeing
  • The show ends after imparting that no matter how much social jostling, intrigue, and scheming we do, we are no match for natural forces
  • THE END
